After a break of three years the towns very own classic car show roared back on Sunday 7th August with an entry exceeding 300 vehicles.
With a new name of “Classics over sands”, many new organising committee members and an online entry system, we were a little nervous of how things might work out. With the first entries on the field by 8.30 am, the vehicles really started to pour onto the field and by lunchtime we’d passed the 300 mark.
With entry points for Visitors busy, by early afternoon the field was buzzing, weather perfect and the Lakes ice cream stall flat out! With an estimated 2500 visitors to the field over the day, the Scouts were busy parking visitors’ cars whilst the afternoon events unfolded with the High Society Jazz band followed by the Bay Community Singers. Debora Field wowed the crowds with her aerial hoop work, prior to prizegiving at 4pm. The PTA managed to keep refreshments going, whilst Shaws of Grange, who ran the bar, literally ran out of beer and The Women’s Institute Cake stall ran out of cakes!
Another change was to let the public vote for the car (or motorbike) they would most like to take home with them. With literally hundreds of voting slips, we were hard pushed to count all the votes in the hour or so we’d allotted. Whilst the winner of overall best car was beautiful 1920’s Bentley straight 8, Visitors also picked a Morris Minor Van and an Austin Maestro! Best motor bike went to a superb Brough Superior.
A huge thanks to all the local people from the Town and further afield who helped to put on the event. It takes a massive effort over many months to pull events such as this together, which also bring visitors into Grange to appreciate our beautiful town and surroundings. We have had lots of lovely comments and thanks from both entrants and visitors, mainly through Facebook and our website, which makes all the hard work worthwhile.
Our named Charity “North West Blood Bikes” received £3,500 donation, with further donations to the local Scout Group, Cumbria Wildlife Trust and The Bay community Singers.
We have already started planning our 2023 event, which will be held on Sunday 13th August, with further information and updates on our website: classicsoversands.org

A very big thank you from Aerial Hoop for welcoming us yesterday at Classics Over Sands and looking after us so well. We loved the cars, the music, the friendly crowd, the ice-cream and much more. What a smashing event.
Best show this year!! We thoroughly enjoyed it and more folks stopped to chat than in any other shows. Many thanks to you and the team for all the hard work you have done.

Thank you for organising an excellent event. One which has encouraged me to start saving for the Austin Healey 3000 that I have always dreamed of owning.
